About Livonia PTSA Council
The Livonia PTSA Council is a group of local PTA/PTSA units
within the Livonia Public Schools District. The Council is
organized under the authority of the Michigan PTSA for the purpose
of promoting conferences, communications, leadership development and
coordination of the efforts of the local units. To read the bylaws

The Purpose of Livonia PTSA Council
Livonia PTSA Council plays an important role in the PTA. They
provide support and assistance to the PTA units within the Livonia
Public Schools District. Livonia PTSA Council provides the following
services:
- Interprets, promotes and supports the basic policies of the
PTA
- Coordinates the efforts of local units within LPS District
- Makes people aware of the need for action through the united
strength of local PTAs
- Provides in-depth background information on current issues
related to the lives and education of children and youth
- Assists the local units, when asked, in understanding and
carrying out action
- Build local unit and public support for local, Michigan
PTSA, and National PTA legislative action
- Provides opportunities for PTAs to address issues, which
include but reach beyond the local school community
- Strengthens PTA leadership by providing leadership
development
- Coordinates/cooperates in community projects
- Enhances communication among local units, Council, and
Michigan PTSA
- Represents the interests of the member local units, Michigan
PTSA, and National PTA before LPS District and other appropriate
provider organizations or advocacy groups
- Provides a forum for public information and debate on issues
affecting children and youth, for candidates for public office
and for legislative/public policy matters
Structure of the PTA
Each level of the PTA has been established for the purpose of
forming a nationwide movement to advocate the need to support and
speak out on behalf of children and youth in the schools and in the
community.
Local PTA/PTSA Unit -- find local units

- Operates as a self-governing body and is chartered by the
state
- Plans programs and activities to meet community needs
- Works at the school site, at home and in the community
for all children
- Serves as the local organization through which the Michigan
PTSA and National PTA objectives are carried out
- Is represented on the Livonia PTSA Council board or at
Michigan PTSA functions by the unit president and/or designated
representatives

- Serves as a conference body
- Provides workshops, leadership development, information and
programs
- Coordinates programs and projects of member units

- A branch of the National PTA
- Includes all who join local PTAs within the state
- Organizes units and councils
- Cooperates with other groups and organizations working for
youth
- Maintains legislative advocates
- Holds an annual summer academy and convention
- Interprets and implements policies, programs and projects
- Provides workshops, field services, and leadership
development
- Provides publications
- Represented on the National PTA board by the Michigan PTSA
president
